One system instead of five that don't talk to each other

Xero and MYOB serve you well early on. The cracks appear when data starts moving between systems by hand and reporting takes days.

Ooda Consulting implements Odoo ERP for Australian SMEs from Sydney. We get the chart of accounts right before configuring anything else, migrate from Xero, MYOB or spreadsheets, and set up GST, BAS and PAYG against the rules you work under. Scoping is fixed fee, agreed before the build starts.

The signs you've outgrown accounting software

Multiple systems that don't talk to each other: accounting in Xero or MYOB, inventory somewhere else, CRM in another tool. The same customer or invoice gets typed in more than once. You can't see a real-time picture without exporting and stitching data together.

Then there's the work accounting software was never meant to do: project management, manufacturing, service delivery. Onboarding a new product, location or service becomes clunky.

At that point the question stops being which accounting tool is better, and becomes whether you need a full ERP.

That is where we start, and not with a module list. Which decisions can you not make with the data you have now? Mapping where information moves by hand answers it, and tells us what Odoo should bring together, which processes should change, and which systems are worth keeping.

How we do it

01

Start with the Chart

Implementations built around the Chart of Accounts, not the CRM. GST, BAS and PAYG set up properly from the start, using ATO benchmarks.

02

Scoping

We map what actually happens now, not what the process document says. Fixed fee, agreed up front.

03

Migration

Data brought across from Xero, MYOB or spreadsheets and checked. Bad migrations are one of the most common ways implementations fail.

04

Configuration

Odoo configured around your workflow. We're clear about what to customise and what to leave alone.

05

Local Compliance

GST, BAS and PAYG set up by people who work under the same rules you do. Payroll, Single Touch Payroll and award obligations depend on your Odoo version and your awards, so we scope them before committing to them.

06

Training and Adoption

Your team taught on your configuration with your data, so the system gets used rather than worked around.

07

Support

Ongoing helpdesk after go-live, from the people who built it.

Cutting corners early leads to costly rework later. We've seen businesses stuck with misconfigured accounting that clashes with their accountant's requirements, rebuilding inventory setups that didn't scale, and losing data in botched migrations from Xero and MYOB.

Common questions

Can Odoo replace Xero or MYOB?

Yes. Odoo's accounting module handles invoicing, bank reconciliation, BAS, PAYG and asset tracking, and connects directly to inventory, sales and projects. Most migrations we run are from Xero or MYOB plus a stack of spreadsheets.

What is the difference between Odoo Community and Enterprise?

Community is free and open source and ships Invoicing. Enterprise is licensed per user and adds the full Accounting module, Studio, mobile apps and official support. Most Australian SMEs running finance through the system need Enterprise, but the edition is chosen against the features the business actually requires.

What happens if our requirements change mid-project?

Scope is agreed and fixed before the build starts, so a change is a change. We price it, you decide, and it goes into a later phase if it is not urgent. What we do not do is absorb scope quietly and hand you an invoice at the end.

How does Odoo compare with NetSuite or MYOB Acumatica?

Compare them against the same scenarios rather than a feature list: an order through to dispatch and invoice, a stock adjustment, a month-end close, and whatever specialist billing you run. Include the data migration, integrations, training and ongoing administration, because that is where the difference usually shows. MYOB Advanced is now MYOB Acumatica, so a shortlist may carry either name.

Can Odoo handle multi-entity and multi-currency across Australia and New Zealand?

Yes. Odoo supports multiple companies, currencies and tax jurisdictions in one database, with consolidated reporting across them. Trans-Tasman groups are a common reason SMEs outgrow single-entity accounting software.
